Counseling
At various points in an individual’s and a family’s life, barriers to healthy relationship arise, and while a community of support can at times offer guidance through healing, there are times when that supportive community is not available or life situations seem to create insurmountable obstacles.
counseling with teens
In working with teens, parent coaching might or might not be helpful at this stage of development. For some teens, they just need a place to safely talk with someone who isn’t mom or dad, but is an adult who can offer understanding and a different perspective than their friends as they make decisions. It is often still really helpful for parents to be involved in counseling, but confidentiality for the teen (with some exceptions here, like threats of self- harm or being hurt by others) is really important, so we navigate this a bit differently than we do with younger kids. For many teens, we are working on what needs are being met in their current way of doing things, and what’s the cost that comes with their decisions, as well as sorting through other solutions to get those needs met. Sometimes, we work on new skills to help them better cope with their life’s challenges.
counseling with college students
It’s a really unique moment in your life, where you finally have more room to explore who you are and what you really want. For many of us at this season, we have already had questions about how we have seen other adults do their lives and what we do and don’t want to repeat, but college is often a powerful place for us to make significant changes. For some, this time of life is really difficult, and even overwhelming. I see our work as collaborative in sorting through your life and what has brought you here. Sometimes, this is short-term work, and sometimes, your situation asks us to stay together a bit longer. Either way, we learn how to listen to your story with kindness and find a way through together.
counseling with adults
Our work is primarily collaborative, one in which, together, we sort out a way through. In my work with adults, we tend to take our time, as what tends to be most healing in this work is not advice on what to do differently; instead, change tends to come as we replay the same patterns - even with me in our work - and our work together is exploring what you are seeking in your relationships.
As we have been hurt in relationship, we are also mended in relationship, and the therapeutic relationship provides a safe context for repair.
Our work is not to erase what has been done, but to acknowledge and begin to find new ways of coping with it as well as new ways of relating that can interrupt its repetition in your life. You are the expert on you, and my role is to hold your story – to bear your struggle with you – with kindness, and with the hope that you will not bear it alone.
LPC Supervision
If you are here to find out more about supervision or consultation for licensed professionals, associates or practicum/internship graduate students, I would encourage you to explore what we are doing over at Oakwood Roots. As Clinical Director for Oakwood Roots, our training clinic loves working with students and provisionally licensed clinicians as they sort out who they are as therapists.

about me
About Jeremy
Since 2000, I have been working with kids and their families in different capacities. I completed my training in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology in 2010, and while much of my formal training was with adults from a more long-term, depth approach, much of my initial experience was working with kids in community mental health in lower-income families. I received further training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) through Harborview Center for Sexual Assault & Traumatic Stress, and more recently, I received training in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) through an EMDRIA-approved training site, which I typically use in conjunction with Relational depth psychotherapy work. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas (TX Lic# 71786). Aside from my work as a therapist, I have also been an assistant instructor at The Seattle School for classes related to children and adolescents, as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy and relational psychoanalysis. I am also the Clinical Director in my group practice, Oakwood Roots. I have spoken to various groups on self-care, working with children & adolescents, and parenting. Lastly, I am trained through a post-graduate certificate program in Relational Psychoanalysis and served as the President of the Board for 2022-2023 for The Contemporary Psychodynamic Institute that houses this certificate program, and focuses more on linking our therapeutic relationship and its unique dynamics between us with your relationships and past outside of the office, and I find that this area of work is where therapy feels most magical to me.
Schedule Appointment
If you are interested in setting up an appointment with me, I can be reached at jeremy@oakwoodroots.com or through our New Patient Form at Oakwood Roots, found here. Prior to our first appointment, I will be sending along additional paperwork to complete through our HIPAA-compliant, secure online system, Simple Practice. You will receive text/email reminders 24 hours before our appointments (if you choose). I am in-network with Aetna and Scott & White, and I will take care of all of your billing with insurance. If you have out-of-network coverage with another insurance company, our office is happy to talk with them to find out what coverage you do have, and what your cost would be to work with me. If I am unable to see you due to availability or we decide that it is not a good fit, I am more than happy to help you find someone within our practice or the community who is able to work with you.
